Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: · Revision 1
Effective for an account from the moment it accepts this version at signup. For an account that accepted an earlier version, or none: effective , or 30 days after we email notice to that account’s admin if later (Terms of Service, section 18).
This Acceptable Use Policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to every organization that uses Lina and to everyone on its team. It exists because Lina speaks to the public for you — through chat, phone calls, email and hosted websites — under your organization’s name.
1. Political and advocacy communications
If your organization is a campaign, PAC or advocacy organization:
- Follow election, campaign-finance and political-advertising law — including “paid for by” and other disclaimers where they are required, and rules on AI-generated content in political communications.
- Do not use Lina to spread false information about when, where or how to vote, who may vote, or the results of an election, or to discourage or intimidate anyone from voting.
- Do not solicit or accept contributions in ways the law does not allow (for example from foreign nationals or above legal limits). Lina can record a pledge a caller describes; following contribution rules is your job.
- Keep your organization’s identity clear: your assistant speaks as your organization’s AI assistant, not as a candidate, official or other real person.
2. Calls and texts
If you use Lina to place calls or send texts:
- Get the consent the law requires before calling or texting people. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), calls that use an artificial or prerecorded voice — which includes AI-generated voices — and automated texts generally need the recipient’s prior express consent, and marketing messages need prior express written consent.
- Honor every opt-out right away, whether it is a reply such as STOP or a request made any other way, and do not work around it.
- Register your texting program as carriers require (A2P 10DLC), and follow carrier and Twilio messaging rules.
- Do not use purchased or rented lists, do not call or text numbers you have no consent for, and follow quiet-hours and do-not-call rules.
- Do not spoof caller ID or hide who is calling.
3. Email
If you use Lina to send email or prepare an AI-drafted reply:
- Review and approve the message before it is sent. Do not assume an AI draft is accurate, lawful or appropriate for its recipient.
- Comply with CAN-SPAM and other anti-spam and marketing laws, including accurate sender information and subject lines, required advertising identification and a valid physical postal address, a clear unsubscribe method, and timely handling of opt-outs.
- Do not send unsolicited bulk email, use purchased or rented lists, hide who sent a message, or continue emailing anyone who opted out.
4. Honest AI, and no impersonation
- Do not set up your assistant, site or messages to impersonate a real person — including a candidate, elected official, journalist or public figure — or to use a real person’s cloned voice or likeness without their written permission. Staff drafting tools may help write content that a real person reviews and publishes under their own name.
- Do not make your assistant claim to be human. The platform instructs the assistant never to claim to be human or deny being an AI, and its phone system plays a fixed AI notice before every call the AI agent answers and a fixed voicemail notice, which says the message will be recorded, before voicemail records a message (Terms of Service, section 9); you must not try to defeat them, for example by instructing the assistant to pretend or by hiding the disclosure on your site. Do not word a hold message or voicemail greeting to suggest a person is listening live. Keep the disclosure clear and comply with California SB 1001 and other bot or AI disclosure laws that apply.
- Do not use Lina to deceive people about who you are or what you are asking of them.
5. Harmful and illegal content
Do not use Lina to create, host or send content that is illegal; that harasses, threatens or bullies anyone; that discriminates unlawfully (for example in housing, employment, credit or access to services) or incites violence or hatred; that sexually exploits anyone, including child sexual abuse material (which we report); that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or privacy; or that is defamatory.
6. Sensitive data
Do not use Lina to collect or store information from children under 13. Lina is not built for especially sensitive data. Without a separate written agreement with us, do not use it to collect or store health information covered by HIPAA, full payment-card numbers, or bank-account or government ID numbers.
7. Security and fair use
- No malware, phishing, spam or other malicious content.
- Do not probe, scan or test Lina’s security except as our responsible-disclosure policy allows, and do not try to reach another organization’s data or disrupt the service.
- Do not get around allowances, rate limits or other limits, or share one account between separate organizations.
- Do not overload the service or use it to attack other systems.
8. Crawling other websites
The knowledge crawler fetches the pages you point it at. Only crawl sites you own or have permission to crawl, and follow each site’s terms and its robots.txt — Lina does not check robots.txt for you. Do not use the crawler to copy content you have no right to use.
9. Your hosted site
Your hosted site (yourname.linasystems.org, or your own domain) is your content and must follow this policy: no phishing or fake sign-in pages, no malware or deceptive downloads, nothing illegal or infringing, and nothing that pretends to be Lina or another organization.
Copyright complaints. If you believe content on a site hosted by Lina infringes your copyright, email abuse@linasystems.org with your contact details; the work you say is infringed; the exact web address of the material; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We will remove or disable the material and tell the organization, which may respond. We close the accounts of repeat infringers.
10. Reporting abuse
Report abuse to abuse@linasystems.org. Include the web address or phone number involved, what happened, and when. Security vulnerabilities go to security@linasystems.org.
11. Enforcement
If we believe a use breaks this policy, we may take any action section 11 of the Terms of Service allows, including removing content, disabling a feature or suspending the account immediately and without advance notice, ending the Terms, and reporting illegal activity to the authorities. For a problem that does not require immediate action, we will ordinarily tell you first.
